Orthodontist Referral Service Available at www.braces.org
ST. LOUIS-Point. Click. Straighten!
OK, not so fast. Achieving a healthy, beautiful smile could be that quick in virtual reality-but in reality you should still see an orthodontist to get the real thing.
Asking your family dentist for a referral has always been a good way to get the names of orthodontists. Besides a family dentist, consumers now have a high-tech referral option at www.braces.org.
Wherever you live, it's easy to find an AAO-member orthodontist. Just log onto the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Web site,www.braces.org. Click on the phrase "Find an Orthodontist."
You define your unique search parameters. To find orthodontists in the U.S. and Canada, enter a street address or intersection plus the city/state or province and zip code/postal code to find up to 30 AAO-member orthodontists closest to that address.
A second option allows you to search for AAO-member orthodontists anywhere in the world. Several search options are available:
Search by a member orthodontist's last name; Search for member orthodontists in a given city/state or province; Search by ZIP code (for U.S. orthodontists); Search by country. So, in a sense, "Point, Click, Straighten" wasn't so far off, after all. Finding an AAO-member orthodontist near you is about as simple as 1, 2, 3 by visiting www.braces.org.
The AAO addresses the questions and concerns of parents and potential patients of all ages with its "Want to Know More?" section. For example: When should I begin treatment? How long will treatment take? Are there different types of braces? These answers, and many others, are at your fingertips.
Braces Can Provide Healthy, Beautiful Smiles
Orthodontic treatment is easier on the budget than prospective patients might imagine-many dental insurance plans provide orthodontic benefits, and AAO members are happy to work with a patient's family to arrive at an affordable payment plan.
What If I Don't Have a Computer at Home?
If you don't have Internet access at home, check your local public library. Many libraries offer Internet services to patrons. And you can still find AAO-member orthodontists near you via a toll-free telephone service. Just call 1-800-STRAIGHT (1-800-787-2444).
For more information about orthodontics or for the names of AAO member orthodontists in your area, visit www.braces.org or call 1-800-STRAIGHT (1-800-787-2444). Your dentist also can provide recommendations on orthodontists near you.

Who is an orthodontist?
An orthodontist specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. Orthodontists receive an additional two-to-three years of specialized education beyond dental school to learn the proper way to align and straighten teeth. Only orthodontists are eligible for membership in the AAO.
About the American Association of Orthodontists:
The AAO comprises 15,000 members in the United States, Canada and abroad. Founded in 1900, the AAO supports research and education leading to quality patient care and promotes increased public awareness of the need for and benefits of orthodontic treatment. Orthodontists are uniquely qualified to correct improperly aligned teeth and jaws. They are specialists in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. The American Dental Association requires orthodontists to have at least two academic years of advanced specialty training in orthodontics in an accredited program, after graduation from dental school.
